Mitsubishi Electric's innovative "MEL ART" technology, introduced in 1995, and now available in an enhanced MEL ART-II version, offers a fresh and attractive dimension to elevator presentation. The fundamental concept comes from the Japanese interior design tradition of painting intricate and beautiful scenes on fusuma, or sliding doors, that evoke expressions of warmth and welcome.
MEL ART-II is produced by a graphic painting system similar to an inkjet printer, but capable of generating highly complex and refined images of exquisite quality. Six different color inks printed with a resolution of 720 dots per inch, and overlaid with a special clear coating, transforms any elevator door or wall panel into nothing less than a vivid work of art.
Designs are prepared via computer graphics technology, which permits use of virtually any image, be it a painting, illustration, photograph, or an image from Mitsubishi Electrics archive of hundreds of original MEL ART-II designs.
Regardless of design, the result is of a quality much higher than a silk-screen process, and the combination of newly developed ink with enhanced light stability and original inkjet printing technology ensures lightfast characteristics equal to single-color paint schemes.
